A Quick Update
almost 6 years ago – Thu, May 24, 2018 at 04:05:39 PM

Dear Backers -

With the apparent failure of the equity crowdfunding campaign, we have taken a step back to regroup and consider a number of options. Some paths forward have been presented to us. We need a few weeks to find the best path forward. As soon as we find that best path forward, you all will be the first to know.

Sincerely, Shon Bury

Update and Some News
about 6 years ago – Sun, Apr 15, 2018 at 11:24:07 PM

Hello, Deadite Slayers!

I hope everyone has been doing well since the last update. Apologies for not checking in sooner, but there hasn't been much to report on the printing side of things--and we've been busy-busy-busy with some pretty excited bits of news.

First, the printer reported last week that everything is going apace. I've requested pics of the process, but have not received any yet. I'm not sure if we will, but I'll keep bugging them. I'll time the printing of the posters, book plates, and the shipping of the prop replicas to time with the shipments of the books to order fulfillment centers. All pretty standard logistics stuff.

I still owe you all digital copies of the books. Please give me a few weeks on that. The source files are enormous and I'm trying to get the right resolution so that you have a nice high-resolution product AND files you can actually download.

In the meanwhile, I wanted to share some news items with you all. I've mentioned before that we had some pretty significant staff changes at the end of last year. It wasn't the best timing considering the amount of projects we juggle and that I was pretty sick from roughly June 2017 - Jan 2018, but it happens from time to time in the life of a business and I'm really happy with the new crew we have put together.

If you are also a board game backer of ours, then you already know we brought on iVerse and Play Grim founder Michael Murphy to take over game design and project management on Evil Dead, Terminator, and The Howling:

https://bit.ly/2qxdAPI

He's doing a great job of making up for lost time on the game side of things, and I am beyond thankful that he was able to join the team when he did.

On the publishing side of things, I finally brought in an EiC to help me manage books. Keith Champagne has been in the comic book business for as long as I have. We've worked on many projects together, and we've been looking for a way to work together more officially for a long time. I'm looking forward to handing the reigns of some of the editorial work to Keith's capable hands.

You can read more about Keith joining us and some of our other executive changes here:

https://bit.ly/2qz2HMl

Keith also launched a new Kickstarter of his own last Fri with one of my oldest friends in the biz, Dev Madan. Please check out their campaign, if you have a chance: https://kck.st/2qzc27N

Dev has worked in video games for a long time. If you've played Plants vs Zombies, you are familiar with his art. He also provided art chores on our Zombie Camp comic book last year. Keith's most recently work can be found on DC's Green Lantern.

Additionally, I have one more bit of great news. It's a bit of inside baseball, but to me it's the icing on the cake of years and years of hard work. As many of you know, Space Goat has been publishing comics for about three years now. We have a wonderful distribution deal with Diamond Comics. That deal gets all our comic books into local comic book shops. But it's not the best way for us to get all our graphic novels (or anything with a spine) into the hands of a broader retail market. Well, that all changed with our new distribution deal with Midpoint Book Trade. They are a large distributor that will get our graphic novels into the book trade and library system in a way that we have not yet been able to achieve on our own.

This deal took more than six months to put together, but inventory starts shipping to their warehouses next week. We're really pleased about this, even if it does mean I need to spend most of next week schmucking boxes and slapping packing slips on them. The nice thing about this deal is that the VP of Sales is a huge Evil Dead fan and is bonkers for the books you all helped make happen. Once he saw the file proofs for the Omnibus and Art Book, he immediately asked me to increase our print runs. Fortunately, I was able to adjust the order at the printer in time to facilitate this. Thank you all for making that happen!

Here's a little press on the Midpoint deal:

https://bit.ly/2qBpx6I

This coming week will be busy slinging boxes of books, but I couldn't be happier.

Lastly, we have signed a foreign-language print deal with Wetta in France. If you are in France, be on the lookout for French translations of Evil Dead: Beyond Dead by Dawn and The Howling. We haven't sent out an official PR on that yet, so you guys get the scoop!

Again, I want to apologize for being so quite the last few months. I know that's bad Kickstarter form, but my nose has been to the grindstone making all the above happen--and I couldn't announce any of it until it was all in place.

I will still be a little slow on DM replies for the next month to six weeks and non-existent in the Comment section, but please know we are working every day to continue making you the coolest stuff we can dream up.

Sincerely,

Shon

PS: Evil Dead scribe Ian Edginton reports he is done with the script for the 80-page Doppelganger Wars story. Who is ready to crowdfund that? Who wants us to hold off until we fulfill some of these campaigns first? Who is a Kickstarter diehard? Who would be okay with us funding this on, maybe, IGG?

Production Update
about 6 years ago – Sun, Feb 11, 2018 at 08:19:53 PM

Hello, Deadite Slayers!

I hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for being so quite. We've been making some staff changes and I've been busy proofing and editing a few board games and books.

Due to a quick trip I had to take to Texas a few weeks ago and an illness, I was not able to get the proofs for the art book done and off to the printer until last week. The art books is a big honker--and I needed to comb through it all to make sure it's worth every penny you all are spending on it. It's off to the printer now, and we will have copies in our various warehouses on May 29th.

Here's the schedule from the printer

Printer's Schedule
Printer's Schedule

This is the printer's own estimate. So long as there are no shipping issues, we'll be able to stick very close to this. You can tack on an additional 2 weeks from the warehouse week for the order fulfillment centers to get your rewards delivered.

That's later than we estimated, but I really needed to pour over the art book a few times before putting it to bed.

Now that everything is finished, we'll convert to an easy(ish) file so you can all download your digital copies. I need about a week to make that happen.

Meanwhile, we'll be printing up posters and book plates locally. I'll share pics as soon as we have them.

Thank you all for your support. You have all made this such a fun campaign to run.

Stay Groovy!

Backerkit Survey Almost Done and New Year Update (w/ pics!)
over 6 years ago – Thu, Jan 11, 2018 at 07:19:52 PM

Hello, Soul Suckers -

We've been a little quiet the last few weeks as we spend a little time organizing for the new year and prepping your groovy, groovy rewards. Before we go into a production update, I want to remind everyone that the Backerkit survey closes on Mon, January 15th.

If you haven't taken care of shipping and any misc add-ons that you've been eyeballing, now's the chance. Here's the link to the survey:

https://evil-dead-2-omnibus-art-book.backerkit.com

Feel free to share this out on social media and tag a friend who may be interested in it. There are about 200 slipcases that still need to be claimed--and we only plan on signing numbered bookplates for the ones purchased during the campaign and survey.

Now On To Production...

We are running a little behind on getting the Art Book off to the printer (due solely to me being super pedantic and picky), but we are just about there and it shouldn't effect the delivery date. While Jacob and I wrap things up and get our final quote in from our printer, I wanted to share a few things with you.

First is the Combat Ash figure. This is a Kickstarter exclusive that has only seen the light of day during a Nerd Block promotion back in April 2017. These are the 33mm figures directly from the factory that's making the game:

Here's a closer look at the details of Ash. Although it has slowed game production way more than we ever imagined it would, we are striving to compete with the very best board game figures currently on the market. It's taken a little extra time and money, but we are dedicated to bringing this level of quality to everything we do for you all.

Finally, I want to show you just how huge (again) and glorious the Necronomicon and Kandarian Dagger are.  I threw in the bagged up Ash and my giant 32" monitors for scale because I was too lazy to look for my tape measure.

That's all we have for today!

PS: Except one more thing... Our two board games have made it into the finals for Top 20 Board Game(s) of the Year for 2018. We are honored to find Evil Dead 2 and Terminator have been nominated in the horror and scifi categories respectively. Please click HERE and give them both a vote, if you are so inclined. Thanks very, very much!
